When you contact us we’ll sit down (either over the phone or in person) and discuss what you’re trying to do with you website. We’ll take a look at your logo, some of your ads (if you have any,) social media, and other pieces of your business plan and marketing plan. At this point we’ll also determine if you need anything other services we can offer. From there, I’ll put together a little bit of a proposal so you know what the estimated costs will be.
When you’re ready to move forward on your website we’ll sign an Agreement. I don’t like the word contract because that’s really not what it is. It simply, literally makes sure we’re on the same page. It is not my intention to do a bunch of work to not to get paid, and you don’t want to spend your hard-earned money on something that isn’t up to your standards. The agreement simply makes sure we’re on the page and I am more then happy to go over any part of it with you. I typically ask for a retainer of half of the total cost. Then we move on to the two phases of your site.
We generally do websites in two phases. The first phase includes potentially getting a little more information from you, including what color scheme you’d like to go with and what kind of information you’d like on your site. After that it’s time we go to work. Usually this takes between two or three weeks, but if you’ll be given a more structured timeline in the Agreement. This is also the time for you to start getting the content together for the website. No one knows your business like you do. You’re the one that should be writing. If you don’t think you can write passionately about your business then we can put you in touch with a copywriter who will be more than happy to have a conversation with you and type something up!
When phase one is complete, you’ll be able to take a look at your website! The ‘shell’ of the site will be up and at that point we’ll basically be waiting for you to provide us with content and any final edits to the website. At the end of phase one you will receive an invoice for another quarter of the total.
That’s pretty much it! We’ll make the final corrections and then you’ll be ready to show the world your brand new website! You’ll be provided with a PDF of your usernames and passwords for WordPress, your domain, the cPanel and whatever other passwords we have.
