Hey Guys! \u00a0Alright, let’s just get it out of the way….hosting rates will be going up. \u00a0We’ve upgraded and have far superior hosting and cannot afford to keep our rates. \u00a0Don’t get too upset yet, because there is a silver lining. \u00a0Keep reading or jump down to ‘What Does This Mean For You<\/strong>.’ \u00a0In my best efforts I’ve tried to think of everything to make this as easy and painless as possible.<\/p>\n

There are also a number of you out there who have ‘custom \/ speciality’ hosting packages out there. \u00a0I will be contacting you in the upcoming weeks to go over if \/ how your plans will change.<\/p>\n

The Short Story<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The short story is that\u00a0we’ve made a decision\u00a0to upgrade our hosting to make it more WordPress friendly.<\/p>\n

WordPress is a pretty big resource \/ CPU hog. \u00a0I’ve been monitoring sites ever since I’ve started and just wasn’t getting the performance I truly wanted. \u00a0In the pursuit of giving you the best hosting possible for your WordPress site, we moved to a much more powerful hosting server. \u00a0It was a tough decision to raise prices, but I didn’t want to sacrifice performance for price. \u00a0Our new prices are still pretty low\u00a0to comparable\u00a0hosting. \u00a0We’ve also added a new ‘tier’ to our hosting packages to make things easier. \u00a0View new hosting pricing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What We’ve Actually Done<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Last month we upgraded to \u201cVPS<\/strong>\u201d hosting, which is great for you.\u00a0 <\/span>A \u201cVPS<\/strong>\u201d is a \u201cVirtual Private Server<\/strong><\/a>\u201d which\u00a0essentially means we\u00a0got moved to our own hosting server (as opposed to a Shared Server<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

With a \u201cShared Server<\/strong><\/a>\u201d we basically\u00a0are allocated a certain amount of web space (and bandwidth) on a Server with a bunch (hundreds) of other websites.\u00a0 <\/span>While this can keep the cost down on hosting, it can also lead to some very serious problems down the road.\u00a0 <\/span>For example, if another website on the server gets \u2018hacked\u2019 (or gets a virus,) every website on that server may be susceptible.\u00a0 <\/span>Another example is if a few sites\u00a0on a \u2018shared server\u2019 is using too much RAM or CPU then it will effect all of the sites on the server.\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, it can effect hundreds of sites.<\/p>\n

Benefits With The Price Increase<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First of all, your website will be faster with less hiccups. \u00a0Because we’re on our own server we have allocated CPU and RAM just for us. \u00a0This means that we’re cooking with some real fire. \u00a0Moving to a VPS means that we\u2019re in our own little world.\u00a0 <\/span>Over the past month I\u2019ve been monitoring and have seen sites loading anywhere from .5 seconds fast to 1.5 seconds faster.\u00a0 <\/span>Good for us!!!<\/p>\n

In addition, I’ve completely restructured the hosting plans (as well as our maintenance plans<\/a>.) \u00a0Some of the plans are getting a little more than what they had before.<\/p>\n

Because we’re on our own server it’s super important that WordPress, Plugins, etc stay up-to-date on all hosted sites. \u00a0Therefore, monthly optimization and updates are now included in the price of hosting, rather than in the maintenance plans. \u00a0This will include:<\/p>\n
