So, we’ve talked about how\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>to sell<\/a>. \u00a0Today, I thought I’d talk about the other side of the coin and give some inspiration about how I\u00a0do\u00a0<\/em>sell.<\/p>\n

Most of the time I like to ‘sell’ with options. \u00a0Give someone options for what they’re looking for with an explanation of why I’m giving those options and what the differences are between the options. \u00a0Two examples come to mind.<\/p>\n

Website Selling<\/h3>\n

I love giving people options when it comes to solutions for their website. \u00a0I do my research and learn everything I can about what the best solution for the person is. \u00a0I also take the time to get educated about which one I think is\u00a0the best choice. \u00a0Like with most things in life, it usually comes down to money (and\/or time.) \u00a0I usually give people three choices:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The expensive, all-in-one solution.<\/li>\n
  2. The ‘some money’ \/ will get the job done solution.<\/li>\n
  3. The free, DIY option.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This gives a person a choice to make an educated decision based on the options that are best suited for them. \u00a0I generally appreciate it when it happens with me and have noticed that\u00a0people appreciate it when the same happens to them.<\/p>\n

    I have no problem telling people\u00a0I don’t have\u00a0a good solution either. \u00a0As you may (or may not) know, I generally create websites using\u00a0WordPress<\/span><\/a>. \u00a0So if someone tells me they want a site designed in\u00a0Drupal<\/span><\/a>, I try to explain that my\u00a0‘skill set’<\/span>\u00a0is really in WordPress. \u00a0I will attempt to explain why I believe WordPress is the better choice, but I also know that someone with the same\u00a0‘skill set’ in Drupal can make just as beautiful a website. \u00a0Therefore the decision is theirs to make.<\/p>\n

    Effectively giving\u00a0someone the website they want (and deserve) is the ‘name of the game.’\u00a0\u00a0Learning Drupal (the way I know WordPress)\u00a0would take years and it would be a disservice to my clients if I lead them to believe otherwise. \u00a0Part of the cost of getting a website created is the knowledge and experience I have in WordPress. \u00a0Just like how you go to college for 4 years to gain knowledge so you can get paid more money!<\/p>\n

    Bible Selling<\/h3>\n

    Regardless of your (or my) religious stance, I think you can appreciate the point of this. \u00a0When I was in college I worked at a Christian bookstore. \u00a0One of the things I loved doing was helping people pick out the right Bible translation. \u00a0If you don’t know, there are dozens of types of translations based on many different manuscripts. \u00a0Some people like the ‘Old English style’ of King James while other people prefer the New King James that uses the same manuscripts but updates the language. \u00a0 Still other translations use different manuscripts (there’s about 5,600<\/a>) and different translations.<\/p>\n

    I absolutely loved asking questions and showing people the difference of translations. \u00a0I would ask them if they were going to use the Bible for studies or just casual reading. \u00a0I would show them the difference \u00a0and let them know\u00a0why<\/span><\/em>\u00a0they were different.<\/p>\n

    Conclusion<\/h3>\n

    No matter how you slice it, I like to sell by education. \u00a0I like to give people options so they can make the best decision and spend their hard-earned money on exactly what they’re looking for.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
