\"\"<\/strong>WordPress is pretty Search Engine (and SEO) friendly. \u00a0We’re going to look at creating (and optimizing) Meta Titles and Meta\u00a0Descriptions. \u00a0We’ll also go over some tips and tricks using the Yoast SEO plugin<\/a> to make your website even more SEO friendly!<\/p>\n

Defining Our Terms<\/strong><\/h2>\n

So, when you get results in a search engine (SERP’s,) you’ll see a\u00a0Meta Title, URL, and then Meta Description.<\/p>\n

Meta Title \/ SEO Title \/ Tag Title<\/strong> – This is the ‘blue’ part of the search result and is the Title of the Page<\/p>\n

URL<\/strong> – This is the URL that is displayed as a search result.<\/p>\n

Meta Description<\/strong> – The description that is displayed as a search result.<\/p>\n

SERP’s\u00a0(Search Engine Results Page)<\/strong> – Kinda self explanatory. \u00a0This is the results page when you type in a ‘term’ in a search engine.<\/p>\n

Why Should I Even Care?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

By default (in WordPress) your Meta Title and Meta Description are determined by your Page (or Post) Title and the first 155 characters on your page\u00a0(as the Description.) \u00a0So, if you’re covering a lot of information, the main descriptive points (or keywords) might not always show up in the Title or the first 155 characters of your content.<\/p>\n

There also may be some important information you want in your Title or Description that doesn’t show up on the Page. \u00a0Often times company names, locations and services aren’t mentioned on all pages.<\/p>\n

Editing your Title Tags & Meta Descriptions can help summarize your page, which in turn will help your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and well as provide a better representation of your site when you do show up in a search engine.<\/p>\n

So let’s take a look at Titles and Descriptions!<\/p>\n

Meta \/ SEO Titles<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Meta Titles (or Title Tags) are a maximum of 60 – 80 characters and a minimum recommended 25 characters. \u00a0This includes spaces and all that other fun stuff.<\/p>\n

The typical format for an\u00a0SEO Title\u00a0is “Heading \/ Keyword 1 – Heading \/ Keyword 2 | Site Name<\/em>” (ie – Website Design & Development – Hackettstown, NJ | I Heart Blank, LLC)<\/p>\n

Don’t ‘overdo’ keywords. \u00a0Search engines are pretty smart. \u00a0Just make sure your Title is the best representation of the content on the Page or Post.<\/p>\n

Try to avoid repeating Meta Titles throughout the site’s Pages.<\/p>\n

Remember!<\/em> \u00a0Meta Titles also show up in the tab of your web browser as well as social media.<\/p>\n
