By |2017-08-12T06:13:08+00:00April 16th, 2013|Business|Comments Off on Intent Precedes Content – Keeping Customers At The Core

So I started writing this article and I went on so many different 'side rants' that I decided to break them up into a 'series' of posts about how closely knit being in a band is with 'the business world.'  Here's part two... (Go here for part one) Let's Talk About Music You know there's a few interactions I've had over the past few weeks that got me thinking about my business relationships.  It started, as usual, over music.  Music, and the business of music, is the most honest form of business.  Mostly because it's not considered a 'real' business. There are [...]

Advertising Gold: Kmart – Ship My Pants

By |2017-08-12T06:08:46+00:00April 15th, 2013|Advertising Gold, Business|Comments Off on Advertising Gold: Kmart – Ship My Pants

I'm working on another 'real' article, but I just had to share this commercial.  It comes from Kmart and it is titled "Ship My Pants."  It's a great example of getting your attention and no part of this commercial seems overly redundant.  I think it's cast perfectly, written perfectly and there's two versions included in the video.   Check out the video below and laugh a little...it's Monday.  A huge thanks to Pallante Photography for shooting this commercial my way. People are often scared to take risks in their advertising.  I can't tell you how many times I've presented something only vagues risque and have gotten it shot down.  I'd [...]

When Is Advertising The Enemy?

By |2017-11-21T23:28:14+00:00April 5th, 2013|Business|Comments Off on When Is Advertising The Enemy?

I was posting an article about the importance of customer service when I came across an article that had the opening line, "SURVEY RESULT: 86 percent of U.S. adults will pay more for a better customer experience. So why do companies continue to cut customer service costs and increase spending on marketing?"  My mind immediate went off on a rant, so I went with it. The article from Win The Customer had some amazing statistics about customer service including: 86% – The number of U.S. adults who will pay more for a better customer experience. 89% – The number of [...]

Your “Fans” Are The Reason You’re In Business

By |2017-11-21T23:30:29+00:00March 30th, 2013|Business|Comments Off on Your “Fans” Are The Reason You’re In Business

So I started writing this article and I went on so many different 'side rants' that I decided to break them up into a 'series' of posts about how closely knit being in a band is with 'the business world.'  Here's part one... Let's Talk About Music... Musicians can be a fickle bunch.  Especially with their fans.  You always hear phrases like, "We couldn't do it without the fans" and other musical cliches.  Some bands simply thank their fans when they're winning an award.  Other's find other ways to stay connected with their fans. Sometimes you hear typical stories [...]

Distractions Suck Worse Than You Thought

By |2017-11-21T23:15:46+00:00January 11th, 2013|Business|Comments Off on Distractions Suck Worse Than You Thought

Distractions, distractions, distractions.  Coinscidentally (and ironically) this blog post may have distracted you.  I was distracted today when I saw an article on Lifehacker titled, "Research Shows How Much a Three Second Distraction Can Derail Your Work."  According to the research by Michigan State University, being distracted for as little as 2.8 seconds can cause you make more errors in your work.  In fact, it can cause you to make twice as many errors in your work.  Here's what happened: Study participants were asked to perform a series of tasks in order, such as identifying with a keystroke whether a [...]

By |2017-08-12T05:38:42+00:00December 27th, 2012|Business|Comments Off on What Colors In Your Logo Mean & Establishing Your ‘Color Mission Statement’

The colors you use to represent your business can often have a great impact on how people ‘see’ your business.  We’ve all learned, at some point, the basics of color psychology but when’s the last time you used this with your business.  Sometimes people will even get pumped about using color psychology for their logo but forget that it does impact all parts of their business…like you business cards or your advertisements. Entrepreneurship The Iron Maiden Way

By |2017-11-21T23:30:52+00:00December 10th, 2012|Business|Comments Off on Entrepreneurship The Iron Maiden Way

I was updating The Albatross when I came across a video about Entrepreneurship. It was a great video about how entrepreneurs are different. Heck, the featured speaker was a little different, or at least not the first (or second) person you'd think to be giving a keynote. The featured speaker was Iron Maiden's lead singer Bruce Dickinson. What you may not know is that Bruce Dickinson is a certified pilot (and often flys the band to their shows) who recently founded Cardiff Aviation and has helped make jobs available for 1,000 workers in Whales.

By |2017-08-12T05:30:57+00:00November 20th, 2012|Business, WWW News|Comments Off on .com? .net? .info? Deciding On Your Next TLD

Do you know what TLD is?  Don't be too embarrassed.  It stands for 'Top Level Domain' and to put it simply it's what comes after the "." in your domain name.  It could be a .com, or a .net...and even and .us.  If you'd like to be a nerd then you can find out more on Wikipedia.  You can also get a brief history of gTLD's (or Generic TLD's) that were first introduced in the 80's on the  ICANN website.  These included the ever popular .com, .net, .org, .edu, .gov, .int and .mil.   Enough about TLD's though, let's get [...]
